INSTRUCTOR: Lisa Randall
WHEN: Sunday, November 30, 2014 9:00 – 5:00 PM (Lunch Provided)
WHERE: Lisa Randall’s residence in Canton, GA (near Blankets Creek MTB Trails)
WHO: Sorella members only
Description: Lisa Randall, a local racing machine and race director, will lead this all-day clinic. We are so excited to have this opportunity to learn from her. Here is what Lisa has to say about her clinic: “This will be an advanced skills camp. While there are a few skills I will go over that are low-risk and non-scary, the bulk of the time will be spent practicing technical descents through rock gardens and moderate drop-offs. Riders should be intermediate to advanced and the camp is appropriate for someone able to attempt the 17 mile Snake Creek Gap Race. It is up to the individual riders which obstacles they wish to try, however, I will be up front and say that there probably will be crashes and riders may fall. I had my first true crash out there yesterday – the obstacles are challenging and it is possible to get hurt. I will say though that becoming comfortable on the obstacles I’ve built has made me much more fluid and comfortable at events like Snake Creek Gap, and it is hard to find that type of riding at most of the local trails. Everything is in a small, compact area, so multiple runs are easy to do and the trails all loop back around.”

It’s cyclocross season and time to pull out your off-road bike for some exciting cyclocross races. Sorella Cycling has been showing up in force at the first three Georgia Cyclocross races. This picture was taken before the Women’s Cat 4 race at Boundary Waters Park on Sunday, October 5th. Starting off with a field of twelve racers, the front positions changed frequently over the 30 minute race period with Julia and Brittany battling for 2nd and 3rd. Finally Julia Bryant pulled away and was able to keep second place tied up.Even though Mae Gurene races for ATLX, she is still a Sorella, and we love her even more knowing that she survived her first major crash on one of the tight turns in the woods. Mae finished up on foot with a smile on her face and a hand up from the hecklers at the run up.
Sorella Cycling had a few women participating in other races at Boundary Waters. Jean Miller and Trish Albert raced against a field of fifteen strong women in the Cat 1/2/3 race. Jean finished seventh after a hard fought battle against the 6th and 8th place women. Beth Gearhart who normally races with the Cat 1/2/3 women braved a race against the “older gentlemen,” as she put it, and was faster than eight of the Cat 3/4 Men 35+. Way to go Beth!
If you haven’t had a chance to take in a cyclocross event you should try to make one of the many local races promoted by Georgia Cyclocross
. Note that the Jim Miller and Grant Park races are the two “closest” races and we’re planning a social event at Grant Park. Even if you aren’t a racer, bring some cowbell, something to hand-up, and your best heckling lines. It’s a great way to spend a Sunday, have a little fun, and cheer on your Sorella sisters.
